PERSONAL DAY TRAINING
Expert training for puppies during the day
Training your puppy goes more quickly and efficiently when an expert (your trainer) works directly with your puppy because the expert has done this hundreds of times. However, if you are not involved in the process, there will be a serious disconnect. Puppies trained exclusively in far away Board and Train Programs often have trouble transferring their skills to their owners. One follow up lesson is not enough to transfer all of the information you need to communicate effectively with your puppy. Puppies are also environmental learners-what they learn in one environment will not transfer automatically to a new environment. This is why I focus on Day Training. Your puppy learns all of their skills in the local area, where you live; they become accustomed to the sights and sounds of your neighborhood. They come home to you at night or for the weekend, so that your family can bond with them and learn as they learn, practicing along the way. I only offer longterm Board and Train programs in special circumstances, ie you are going out of town or live too far away for day training. Day Training is supported with video lessons, photos, pupdates, written notes with in person family lessons.
WHAT DOES MY PUPPY LEARN?
Initially I focus heavily on socialization and early puppy learning. House training is a big part of the first few weeks, along with acclimating your puppy to grooming, handling, and exercises to assure that your puppy grows into a safe, accepting dog. I start right away teaching your puppy self control, a skill that will come into play daily. Next I build routines for going in and outside, getting in the car, going in the kennel, walking on leash, playing with toys, going potty, following me in public and greeting people politely. I always teach a couple of tricks and games you can play with your pup. Playing with your puppy is the best way to build your relationship with them. Having defined games is fun for you both and builds obedience skills into the play. Your pup will learn: sit, down, wait, jump in (a car), let's go, come, walk slowly, kennel, go to bed, stay, leave it, drop, games and tricks. We practice all around town, at your house and at mine. You will learn how to manage, exercise, enrich and train your puppy through videos, notes, homework and lessons.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Get in touch and we'll schedule an initial lesson or phone call to answer all of your puppy questions. We'll decide on a training schedule for your puppy. Your puppy comes in the morning from 10am-2pm. Initially I recommend your puppy comes for 3 or 4 days a week, M-H. Gradually we decrease the days as needed. You will be given a login account to the Members Only section of this website. Each week I will update your puppy's personal page, where you will receive notes, pictures, homework and instructional videos of your puppy, so you can see your puppy's progress and practice on your puppy's off days. We will meet periodically for lessons.
